Economy Analysis August 2015...
Well another revision to First quarter GDP has now just about wiped out any gain in the first quarter.  GDP has now been revised to reflect only a .2% gain in the first quarter.  That is about as close as we come to skidding along the ground.  The usual suspects responsible for the demise of first quarter GDP are once again weather related and the sharp rise in the dollar.

Consumer Confidence on the Rise...
In the short term, measures of consumer confidence can be fickle, evidenced by the recent slide in the stock market of late, but over the long run, statistical analysis demonstrates that the trends in consumer confidence are usually a good indicator of future consumer spending trends.

Plastics with Shape Memory...
Thermoplastics are considered malleable because they can be melted and then formed into a new shape to produce products such as food containers and bottles.  This malleable characteristic is what allows products made from thermoplastics to be recycled.

Inspired by the capacity of DNA to retain an enormous amount of genetic information, a team of French researchers from the L`Institut Charles Sadron UdB, de Strasburg (CNRS) and the Aix Marseille Universitẻ synthesized and read a multi-bit message on an artificial polymer.

Slippery Packaging...
A slippery coating technology developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and being marketed by LiquiGlide Inc. of Cambridge Massachusetts, could revolutionize the packaging industry.  The slippery coating applied to the interior of the packaging makes viscous liquids flow faster, saving consumers time, and cutting waste caused by contents sticking to a container wall.

3D Printing - From Skin to Electronics...
Additive manufacturing technology continues to evolve and play an increasing role in creating products that would otherwise not be cost effective, and at times, impossible to produce.  For example, the French cosmetics firm L’Oréal  is teaming up with bio-engineering start-up Organovo to 3D-print human skin for the purpose of safe product testing.  Because skin is a layered structure, it is well suited for 3D printing technology.

Worker Shortage...
The United States faces a need for nearly 3.5 million manufacturing jobs over the next decade and two million of those jobs are likely to go unfilled due to a skills gap, according to new research from Deloitte and the Manufacturing Institute.  American manufacturing companies face a significant skills gap over the next decade, largely fueled by baby boomer retirement and too few young people who see the industry as a career destination.

NOVATION Welcomes IOMOUNTS...
NOVATION Industries welcomes their newest customer iOmounts™,  an innovative company whose products are designed to provide maximum use of devices without distracting from the product functionality or impeding the ease-of-use.  NOVATION Industries will be producing parts for one of their product models, called the Nomad™, which is a utility clamp designed for the active biker or ATVer.  The NOVATION engineering and production team worked with iOmounts to design and built a tool and produce production parts in less than seven weeks in order to meet the company's product launch deadline at the UCI Road World Championship in Richmond Virginia.  Check out the new Nomad™ and their other products at www.iomounts.com

NOVATIO Hires MCIP Intern...
In June, Forrest Peterson joined NOVATION Industries as an intern from the Manufacturing Careers Internship Program (MCIP), a program designed to give young adults a chance to see first-hand the high-paying career opportunities available in the manufacturing sector.  After getting exposed to a variety of positions within the plant, Forrest was recently hired as a Material Handler.  We are excited to have him as a member of the NOVATION Team.
 
NEW 100 TON TOYO Press...
We recently ordered a new 100 ton, all electric Toyo Si-V series injection molding press to replace one of the older presses.  “We are committed to producing high quality, cost effective products for our customers.  Achieving that goal requires a continuous commitment to investing in new equipment and technology,” stated Scott Baxter, President.
